The APS Education Department now has five informative stamp programs available on DVDs. Four titles were converted from older slide shows and one is completely new and available only on DVD. These programs may be purchased by APS members, clubs or chapters for $12 each; non-member price is $20 each. They are available on the APS Market Place. |

February's affiliate of the month, The Society for Czechoslovak Philately (Affiliate #18) was founded in 1939 and joined the APS in April 1967. It is devoted to the collection, study, education, and publicizing of philately represented by the areas of the former Czechoslovakia. |

1835: Josef von Hohen Blum, an Austrian, received the first patent for a pneumatic tube system. 1935: Wiley Post made the first of four attempts to make a nonstop stratosphere coast-to-coast flight. quick tip — Bag of tricks |
|
It's amazing how many kinds of art supplies fit nicely into a stamp collector's bag of tricks. Artist's small paint brushes are a prime example. Use one to apply a drop or two of clean water to the back of a hinge that won't budge. That dab of water will soften the hinge gum sufficiently to pop the hinge without dunking the entire stamp into water. |

Stephanie Frankhouser joined the APS staff in 1987. She started in Sales Division as a circuit clerk and currently works in Internet Sales. She enjoys browsing flea markets and antique stores for that "special" old Holiday postcard to add to her collection. |

APS Board meetings |
|
At the January 7 board meeting Steven Rod and David Straight requested to leave their positions on the Board of Vice Presidents until the Dan Walker case is heard. They were replaced by Stephen Reinhard and Roger Brody. Both Rod and Straight were reinstated to the Board at the February 3 board meeting. The next board meeting is scheduled for February 23, 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, as a telephone conference. |
